SSI is a program designed for individuals who do not have the work history to qualify for DIB. These individuals may have worked in the past but have not paid into the Social Security system at all or only sporadically in the last ten years. Because this is a welfare based program, there are strict limitations on household income and assets in order to qualify for this program. If you are married, your spouse’s income will be counted in the household income. SSI recipients are eligible for Medicaid. The medical requirements are the same for both DIB and SSI and the process to apply and appeal for both programs are the same. With SSI claims, there is no cost unless we win your claim. Contact our Attorney today to see if you may qualify for the SSI program and for a free evaluation of your claim.
